Cannabis in cosmetics? This is the new trend! Following a legal vacuum on the cosmetic use of cannabidiol, new companies are positioning themselves in this promising sector. Indeed, cannabidiol is a non-psychoactive element of cannabis that is used in the composition of new cosmetic products.
This movement is spreading to countries where cannabis is allowable such as the United States. More and more small protagonists are rushing into the cannabidiol sector.
As Romain Lemeunier, Head of Givaudan, a leading flavors, fragrances, and active cosmetic ingredients company, points out, “the trend in CBD in North America is huge”. An excitement in which the historical creators of cosmetics are not participating at the moment. For instance,at Givaudan, the subject of CBD is not yet addressed. Indeed, a very cautious position taken following the legal and regulatory instability of this product.
Nevertheless, various brands such as Origins (Estée Lauder), Kiehl’s (L’Oréal), or Murad (Unilever) are developing types of skincare products with CBD oil. In all probability, the major cosmetics companies will move to CBD within the next 5 years, as soon as the regulations are clarified.
