In a study in diabetic rats subjected to a chronic reduction in blood supply to the brain, CBD treatment for 30 days (10 mg/kg body weight) improved their metabolism.
Study of Cannabidiol action on diabetes
In fact, a study conducted by a team of scientists from the Department of Biochemistry at Maringa State University in Brazil. As usual, you can consult this study by clicking on this link.
So,Cannabidiol (CBD) has a wide range of therapeutic properties, including diabetes mitigation and neurodegeneration.
Cerebral ischemia and the resulting learning difficulties are accentuate in elderly diabetics. However, no studies have shown the effect of CBD treatment in elderly diabetic patients with cerebral ischemia.
Basically, this work tests the hypothesis that CBD treatment improves metabolic dysfunction in middle-aged diabetic rats with chronic brain hypoperfusion.
The animals were under treatment for 30 days with 10 mg CBD / kg BW / day.
CBD and diabetes
After treatment, blood glucose, insulin, total cholesterol, high-density lipoproteins (HDL), low-density lipoproteins (LDL), triglycerides, fructosamine, aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) levels were appraisee.
The DCT group had a reduction in hyperglycemia and an increase in insulin levels. Also, lower levels of fructosamine, LDL, HDL, triglycerides and total cholesterol were observed. AST and ALT concentrations reduced in the CBD treated groups.
The researchers conclude:
CBD can be useful as a therapeutic tool to protect the metabolism against damage due to diabetes aggravated by cerebral ischemia.
