Cannabis users traveling during the holidays will be glad to know that the TSA (Transportation Security Administration) no longer has any restrictions on traveling with medical cannabis.

According to TSA, passengers can now carry FDA-approved drugs containing CBD, as well as any other CBD-containing product. These products can be carried in carry-on and checked baggage.

However, these regulations only apply to CBD that complies with the 2018 Farm Bill. These regulations do not apply to those who need a cannabis product containing more than 0.3% THC.

Although federal law prohibits flight with weed or transport of cannabis containing more than 0.3% THC across state borders, the TSA says that “its screening procedures are security-oriented and are designed to detect potential threats to aviation and passengers. As a result, TSA security guards do not look for marijuana or other illegal drugs.”

If an illegal substance is discovered during a security check, the TSA reports that it will refer the matter to a law enforcement officer.  They can confiscate all the cannabis and accessories they find, but they then send travelers along the way. However, under state and local laws, those caught red-handed while traveling with cannabis may face harsher penalties, including imprisonment.

Discreet cannabis use

For those who decide to take the risk and consume cannabis along the way, consider No flowers. Cannabis edibles or capsules are two very discreet methods of consumption that do not require equipment. In addition, they can be consumed before boarding the plane, train or bus.

But beware, air terminals, railway stations, and bus stops have the right to refuse passengers who are clearly under the influence of alcohol. Besides, those who show clear signs of stoning are much more likely to be monitored by security.

Consumers are therefore advised to check all state laws they plan to visit before travel. Those traveling abroad should check laws. Based on this information, passengers can determine the risk level if traveling with cannabis.
