Uganda’s
Cabinet, which includes the President and a number of ministers, has
established a subcommittee to study the legalization of commercial cannabis
cultivation in Uganda.

According to Minister of State for General Health Sarah Opendi, the subcommittee is chaired by Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda also is currently working on the proposal.

“Cabinet has discussed the issue at length . Besides, a sub-committee of Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda is in place to critically examine enforcement and regulatory issues. We hope that early next year we can receive a report from this Cabinet subcommittee and then make a decision. ” Opendi told local media.

So , Uganda can already issue licences for export crops by decision of the Minister of Health. A few companies are discreetly growing cannabis in Uganda. such as Industrial Hemp Ltd. In April, the latter announced in particular that it would grow crops for export to Canada and Germany and manufacture Sativex. Which we strongly doubted.

Currently,
14 companies have applied for a licence to grow medical cannabis for export,
according to the Ministry of Health.
