Missouri regulators have approved eight sites in the Kansas City area for use as medical marijuana transportation facilities and have begun notifying the winners of grow op licenses.

The Department of Health and Human Services announced last Thursday that it has begun issuing licenses for medical marijuana grow operations. In a news release, the department also said the 60 licenses are awarded to the facilities that score the highest in a blind test.

In fact , government officials expect to complete notification of approved and denied applicants by the end of the week. It will then post the scores of all applicants on its website.

Missouri law limits growers to 30,000 square feet of flowering plant space for indoor facilities, so no more than 2,800 flowering plants for outdoor facilities and either 30,000 square feet of flowering plant space or 2,800 flowering plants for greenhouses. More than one licensee may operate the same growing facility, the limits being multiplied by the number of licenses.

On Monday, the DHSS published a list of 21 approved applications while 3 applications to transport marijuana for medical purposes that were denied. So , licensed transporters can transport medical marijuana from growers to manufacturers of marijuana-infused products, clinics, and qualified patients and caregivers.

Unlike other medical marijuana licenses, there is no fixed number of licenses for facilities used to transport medical marijuana between growers, manufacturers of infused products, and dispensaries.

The state therefore will accept applications for additional transport licenses and has stated that it will review them as they become available.

The approved applications in the region are:

  • Taney Street Nursery LLC, 1251 Taney St., North Kansas City
  • Missouri Hemp Improvement Co, 1520 Swift Ave, North Kansas City
  • CLS Med-Can Logistics LLC, Kansas City

Of the 3 rejected applications, one was in the Kansas City area: The World of Comfort LLC, 11732 Blue Ridge Blvd, Kansas City.

The state medical marijuana law emphasizes also the safety of facilities and transport vehicles.

In fact , facilities are important to maintain a record of movement and transport medical marijuana to its destination within 24 hours of picking it up. Vehicles used cannot be marked to indicate that they are transporting marijuana for medical purposes and must have locked compartments for marijuana and payments, as well as video surveillance systems.
