In under a
week, Illinois will allow recreational marijuana. But there are flaws.

Here are
the details you may have missed.

questions about weed require answers about the form in which it is consumed.

Question 1: How much can I

grams of weed in flower form is the maximum amount, which is usually between 30
and 50 joints. One gram is about the weight of a paper clip.

If you use
cannabis concentrate – think of medicated oil cartridges and medicated muscle
creams – then five grams is the maximum. If it is edible, like brownies or
gums, then 500 milligrams is the maximum you can have. Although it can vary a
lot, it’s usually 50 milligrams.

Note that
if you are not a resident of Illinois, you are only allowed to have half of
these amounts within state borders.

Question 2: How much will
I be taxed?

It depends
on the amount of THC, the chemical responsible for most of the psychological
effects of marijuana. In flower form, there will be a 10% tax. Edible products
are taxed at 20% but will be taxed at 25% if THC levels are above 35%.

In most
states that have legalized recreational weeds, they are generally 30% to 50%
more expensive than illegal weeds.

Question 3: Where can I
smoke weed?

At licensed
tobacco retailers and weed clinics. At home, if you own a home. If you are a
tenant, you will need your landlord’s approval. If you are in a public housing
unit or if you use a public housing voucher, you cannot smoke marijuana there.

A few days
before the light goes green in Illinois, colleges may allow marijuana, which
could jeopardize the federal Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act.
