CBD is one of the many cannabinoids found in hemp and is one of the most abundant. It is studied and used throughout the world for its multiple contributions, and one of them is of particular interest to scientific teams: what are the effects of CBD on weight loss and obesity?

The CBD and its action on appetite and weight

Since 2009, a dozen studies on the use of CBD to reduce or diminish appetite have been published. We were already talking about this subject in our blog a few months ago because a specific study had just been published. Thanks to various effects, such as the browning of white blood cells and the activation of brown fat cells, CBD seems to be able to help control an excessive appetite by transforming bad fats into good fats. You can find our article on the subject here :

Since then, many studies have confirmed these claims and reinforced our knowledge on the use of CBD to control appetite, and therefore body weight.

CBD can help reduce metabolic disorder

As numerous studies have shown, there is a link between the development of metabolic disorders and obesity. Examples include type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure. However, it is known that overactivation of the CB receptors in the body may be partly responsible for these effects. This phenomenon has been proven by a recently published study, which you can discover by clicking on this link.

Overactivation of CB1 receptors in fat tissue throughout the body could contribute to obesity and metabolic risks. CBD helps to block CB1 receptors, which means it may reduce the risk of obesity.

A review of the research published in this journal also notes some highlights of previous studies on CBD and metabolic factors, primarily in animal models. For example, treatment with CBD reduced total cholesterol by 25% in obese rats. The anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects of CBD also appeared to lower blood sugar levels and increase markers of liver health.

CBD may reduce appetite

Most people associate cannabis with a stimulated appetite, as people who smoke cannabis tend to be hungrier than usual. While it is true that tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the psychoactive component of cannabis, can cause hunger, CBD does not.

THC activates CB1 receptors in the body, causing many effects, including stimulating the appetite. However, as the authors of a 2018 study paper point out, CB1 receptor antagonists can help reduce appetite and control obesity.

This is because CB1 receptor agonists block or “turn off” the receptor. CBD does not deactivate CB1 receptors but can influence other molecules to block them. Stopping these receptors can help reduce appetite and avoid overeating in some people.

A study in 2012 aged animals found that exposure to CBD reduced appetite in rats. Although there is a lot of anecdotal evidence to suggest that CBD is useful for appetite suppression, no direct studies have shown that CBD reduces appetite in humans.
