CBD is often taken before going to sleep. It would facilitate falling asleep, deep sleep and wake up without a hangover.

Beyond individual experiences, what are the effects of cannabis on sleep? Here are 5 studies that have identified the consequences of CBD use on your sleep.

Easiest sleep

One of the first modern cannabis research shows that the main ingredient in cannabis, THC, can significantly reduce the time it takes to fall asleep, for people with insomnia and people without a sleep disorder

This ease of falling asleep was also reported in a 2013 study on subjects without sleep disorders and THC users.

Sleep longer

Cannabis could thus allow longer periods of sleep, whether based on the administration of THC or CBD. In general, this was reported by patients treated for epilepsy as part of a study on the effects of CBD.

Sleep deeper

A study shows that THC can increase the amount of slow-wave sleep, also known as deep slow sleep. the latter is indeed supposed to play a major role in the restoration process that occurs during the night.

Shorter paradoxical sleep

Another way that cannabis affects sleep is a reduction in REM sleep. Many people who smoke before going to sleep report an absence of dreams, which only happen during the paradoxical sleep stage.

Better breathing

When talking about therapeutic use, cannabis offers improved sleep in 25% of men and 9% of women with sleep apnea.

Sleep apnea is characterized by a cessation of breathing during sleep. Most people with sleep apnea remain undiagnosed and therefore untreated. The most common treatment is wearing a breathing mask for the whole night.

CBD is recommended as an effective alternative to sleeping drugs since it is natural and has no side effects.
