Endometriosis is a chronic painful disease that is very common in women and defined by the growth of endometrial tissue outside the uterine cavity and lacks adequate treatment. Cannabinoids also regularly cited by sufferers as being able to relieve this pain: THC reduces the pain in endometriosis.

The medical use of cannabis derivatives is a current hot topic . But it is unknown whether phytocannabinoids can alter the symptoms and development of endometriosis.

A study carried out at the Neuropharmacology Laboratory. Department of Experimental Science and Health, at the Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona, Spain. You can consult it by clicking on this link.

Here, the Spanish researchers evaluated the effects of repeated exposure to Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) in a mouse model of surgically induced endometriosis.

Interestingly, daily THC treatments (2 mg/kg) reduce mechanical hypersensitivity and pain discomfort. Modify uterine innervation and restore cognitive function without altering the anxiety-producing phenotype.

Surprisingly, THC also inhibits the development of endometrial cysts.

These data highlight the value of planned clinical trials designed to investigate the potential benefits of THC for women with endometriosis.
