In HIV patients, cannabis use induces anti-inflammatory effects

Firstly, the scientists’ objectives in this study were “to assess the effects of cannabis use on the inflammatory state of oxidative stress and circulating monocyte subsets in HIV-infected individuals on antiretroviral therapy. They also studied the effect of cocaine on these patients.

So,Cannabis consumption reduced the percentages of inflammatory, non-conventional, activated-classic and activated-inflammatory monocytes.

Also In HIV infection, cannabis use mainly induces an anti-inflammatory profile. Cocaine and cannabis plus cocaine use had both a pro- and anti-inflammatory profile, with a predominance of inflammatory status.

Further studies are needed to better understand the action of these drugs in HIV infection.

Basically, among HIV-infected people on antiretroviral treatment and cannabis, cocaine or cannabis and cocaine and cocaine plus cannabis use were associated with an anti-inflammatory profile of cytokines
