Breast cancer is the second leading cause of death among women. It is a serious and widespread form of cancer, with 1 in 8 women developing one in their lifetime. As with all cancers, in some cases, the disease is resistant to conventional treatments, or the patient does not tolerate side effects. That’s where cannabis comes in.

A promising study

This study looks at the antineoplastic effect of CBD, which is to say its ability to prevent the development and growth of a cluster of cells, in this case, cancer cells. The researchers noted, on several different samples, that CBD inhibited tumor survival, in addition to inducing apoptosis, cell death.

These results are however dependent on the dose. Thus, the greater the amount of CBD administered, the more obvious the results. The researchers concluded their study by explaining that the results obtained “propose CBD as an effective treatment against different subtypes of breast cancer”.

CBD treatment has other advantages. Since CBD is a non-psychoactive molecule, patients have better support for this type of treatment. A study published this year indicates that “cannabis as a palliative treatment for cancer patients seems to be a well-tolerated, safe and effective option to help patients fight difficult symptoms.
